Based on the current status of quantum computing, this study aims to: Objective 1: Explore mathematical problems in quantum computing We will work on formulating and understanding mathematical problems in quantum computing. This will be done by exploring various theories of quantum computing based on qubits, which are superpositions of two states, and examining the possibility of extending said theories to those based on qudits and qumodes, which are superpositions of multiple states with higher expressive power than qubits, that are the backbone of optical and other types of quantum computers. In this research period, we will work on the formulation of mathematical problems in quantum computing. Objective 2: Quantum Human Resource Development Currently, it is possible to design quantum circuits and run quantum algorithms on small-scale quantum devices, such as those developed by IBM Corporation. In the future, the number of such devices is expected to continue to increase, possibly helping non-quantum researchers to solve socially-pressing issues. For these reasons, quantum human resource development is important, and so hands-on quantum computing sessions will be held for students and researchers from more traditional, non-quantum, areas of science. Expected Outcome: Through the efforts of Objective 1, we will formulate new mathematical problems in the field of quantum computing and contribute to the field of quantum computing by solving these problems. The efforts of Objective 2 will contribute to the education and training of non-quantum researchers to exploit quantum computing and quantum algorithms for their specific needs. |
