Abstract for Research Report | This workshop focuses on the integration of Topological Data Analysis (TDA) and Machine Learning (ML), with particular emphasis on the emerging research trend known as topological optimization. While TDA has traditionally been used as a preprocessing tool for ML (extracting topological features and converting them into vector representations) recent developments propose a more active role for ML within the TDA pipeline. This new paradigm opens up fresh possibilities for mathematical modeling, particularly in tackling complex industrial problems. By bringing together researchers in TDA, optimization, and industrial mathematics, along with professionals from industry, the workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and explore key challenges in applying TDA to real-world industrial data. The central theme will be topological optimization, where active interaction between TDA and ML allows for more adaptive and expressive data analysis. Presentations and discussions will cover both theoretical foundations and practical applications. In addition, utilizing the organizer’s academic ties in Korea, the workshop will invite Korean mathematicians and industry experts to promote collaboration between Japan and Korea. Through this event, we expect to generate new joint research directions and accelerate the application of TDA and ML to industrial challenges. |
