Abstract for Research Report |
The use of computers has become increasingly common in topology, especially when investigating concrete mathematical objects. Computer-assisted research often involves significant trial and error and careful examination, generating valuable ideas and techniques worth sharing. However, standard papers and conference presentations typically focus on final mathematical results (such as theorems), often overshadowing the dynamic and exploratory role of computers. Consequently, specific methods of computer usage frequently remain undocumented, and developed software often misses opportunities for broader adoption and further development. This workshop aims to highlight the practical use of computers in research to advance computer-assisted studies in topology. We plan to feature a diverse range of speakers, from mathematicians who rarely use computers to experts in computational techniques, with talks including: 1. Presentations on topological results obtained through computer-assisted methods. 2. Talks describing conjectures formulated via computer experiments, including the process of trial and error. 3. Sessions showcasing developed topological software, sharing both the final product and development insights. 4. Problem-posing talks introducing promising research directions in topology where computer assistance is crucial, encouraging discussion and idea exchange. 5. Introductory lectures on related topics from other disciplines. Expected outcomes include promoting interaction between early-career researchers, including students, and industry professionals. We also hope that active discussions will spark new collaborative research projects. |
