The Japanese and Malaysian communities in the field of industrial and applied mathematics have already maintained close collaboration through the Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry (APCMfI). However, there has been limited talent exchange between the two countries, particularly in industry-related research applications. This research activity between Malaysia and Japan is principally aimed to strengthen the relationship between Malaysia and Japan by strengthening the network of researchers in the field of applied and industrial mathematics (particularly in the field of mathematical and statistical modelling focusing on network and hydrology) of the two institutions (UTM and IMI). Additionally, it aims to establish a sustainable talent exchange framework to facilitate long term international knowledge transfer. A key aspect of this initiative is fostering engagement between Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics STEM researchers from academia, government, and industry in both Malaysia and Japan to drive innovation and applied research in industrial and environmental challenges. Thus, the objectives of this event are : 1) to open a new window of long term talent exchange framework and to accomplish a first concrete step of mutual cooperation as well as to facilitate the process and protocol of future exchange between two countries, 2) to develop academic research ecosystem necessary for the future economic and industrial development of both countries, particularly concerning the environmental issues such as green tourism and green mobility system, while focusing on the cutting-edge endeavor, 3) to establish the main coordinators of knowledge transfer and talent exchange of the two countries in the field of applied and industrial mathematics, 4) to share the methodology and experiences of both countries in industrial and economic activities by using mathematical and statistical tools, and 5) to promote and support the broad use of mathematical and statistical models in diverse applications for a sustainable environment and optimal allocation of resources. This event is in support of the following SDG : #4 Quality Education – promotes education in mathematics and practical applications, bridging academia and industry for skill development and inclusive education #11 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Uses mathematics to solve industry issues, driving innovation and resilient infrastructure for sustainable growth #17 Partnerships for the Goals– A model of collaboration among academia, industry, and stakeholders for goal achievement #8 Decent work and Economic growth – Math enhanced industry efficiency drives growth and decent job creation #13 Climate Action– Uses mathematics to optimize processes, resource use, and sustainability, supporting climate action. From this program it is expected 1) to document the research outcomes presented and evaluated under this program via IMI Mathematics for Industry Lecture Note Series 2) to establish international working group between Malaysia and Japan on mathematical and statistical modelling focusing on network and hydrology |
